Record the symptom by corner and road condition

Note whether the concern is repeated bouncing, a single knock, steering vibration, harsh impact, unstable braking, uneven ride height or tire wear. Record speed, road surface, load, temperature and whether the condition changes with steering or braking. A loose cargo item or trim panel can imitate suspension noise. Avoid aggressive maneuvers intended to reproduce instability. Any loss of control, broken spring, tire contact, severe lean or detached component requires recovery and qualified service rather than further driving.

Use a safe visual inspection

Follow the exact lifting and support procedure; never work under a vehicle held only by a jack. Read tire wear and ride height carefully

Cupping can relate to damping, balance, alignment, joint play or tire construction; it is not a single-part diagnosis. Measure ride height only at the endpoints and loading condition specified for the exact vehicle. Compare sides on level ground and note cargo. Do not use a casual fender-gap photograph as a spring or damper specification. A leaking damper may not change static height because the spring carries the vehicle.

Separate front struts from rear shocks

Record whether the request is a bare front strut, rear shock or complete assembly. Include mount, bearing, spring, boot, stop and hardware only when they are actually required. A simple body push can reveal a grossly uncontrolled corner but cannot establish full damper performance or identify a noise source. A qualified road evaluation should compare body control over one disturbance, braking stability and repeated oscillation without exceeding safe limits. Pair that observation with visual leakage, mount condition, tire evidence or approved testing. If the clues disagree, continue diagnosis. Replacing suspension parts as pairs may be a handling decision, but quantity and scope still need to be stated explicitly.

Verify alignment and the original symptom

After qualified suspension work, use the required fastener, spring and alignment procedures for the exact Civic. Confirm hose, sensor wire and boot routing, then repeat the original observation on a safe route. Record ride behavior, steering center, warning lamps, noises and tire contact.
